Sri Dharmalingeswarar Temple

The Sri Dharmalingeswarar Temple in Nanganallur, Chennai, has a significant historical background dating back to around 991 A.D. during the reign of King Raja Raja Chola, as evidenced by a stone inscription discovered within the temple premises. Originally named Dhanmisar Semponkoil, the temple gained prominence in the late 1960s when its granite sanctum sanctorum and deity were unearthed from an earthen mound covered with shrubs.

Over the years, the temple has seen consistent expansion and development, primarily funded by devotee contributions. Despite limited resources, the temple has undergone extensive renovations and constructions following traditional guidelines. Notable additions include the East and Southern Rajagopurams, a Yagasalai Mantapam, and a new chariot for processions.

Devotee engagement has increased, particularly during festivals and auspicious occasions, with many attributing miracles and fulfilled wishes to the grace of Lord Dharmalingeswara.

The temple hosts various annual events and rituals, such as the Brahmotsavam during Panguni Uthiram Tirukkalyanam, Vaarshika Pavithrotsavam on Avani Arudra day, and celebrations for Sarada Navaratri, MahaSivaratri, Karthikai Somavaram, Vaikasi Visakam, Skanda Shashti, Hanumath Jayanthi, Vinayaka Chaturthi, among others. Regular poojas and abhishekams dedicated to various deities are also conducted on specific days.
