Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Navaneetha Krishnan Temple

The temple located behind the Sri Dhanmeeswarar Shiva Temple in MMTC Colony is a significant place of worship amidst a residential area. Here are some details about the temple:

  • Location and Orientation: Situated in MMTC Colony, the temple faces east and features a prominent 55-feet 5-tier Rajagopuram, making it a noticeable landmark in the vicinity.
  • Temple Complex: Despite being located within a residential area, the temple complex is relatively spacious, occupying approximately 10 grounds of land. At the entrance, one can find the Dwajasthambam, Garudalwar, and Palipedam in front of the Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar Sannidhi.
  • Deities: The temple houses several sannadhis dedicated to various deities including Chakkarathalwar, Vedantha Desikar, Srinivasa Perumal, Alwars, Andal, Ramanujar, Kothanda Ramar, and Anjaneyar (Visa Anjaneyar, known for helping devotees obtain visas to the US). Noteworthy is the unique chariot-like structure of the Chakkarathalwar sannadhi with Veda Chakra Vimana.
  • Architectural Features: Behind the main shrine, Narasimhar is seated on a 5-hooded Adiseshan. Additionally, there is a sannadhi for Navaneetha Krishnan with an octagonal shape and a Globe-shaped Vimana. Wooden panels depicting Vaishnava deities adorn the temple complex around this sannadhi.
  • History: According to legends, the temple has existed since the Treta Yuga, but it was reconstructed in 1974-75 AD on the site of a pre-Pallava period ruined temple, believed to be around 1500 years old. During excavation for the new temple, several artifacts were discovered, including a bell, a plate, a lamp, a 5-and-a-half-feet high Mahavishnu statue with Sridevi and Bhudevi (dated back to the 8th century Pallava Period), an inscription stone mentioning a donation for a perpetual lamp, and a Holy prayoga chakra. These unearthed materials, especially the Mahavishnu statue, were shown to Sri Kanchi Mahaperiyava for reverence.

The temple stands as a testament to ancient heritage and spiritual devotion, attracting worshippers seeking blessings from its revered deities.
